Personality: Rapunzel is a very bright and cheery girl, always singing and making things; if she’s not cheery, she acts cheery anyway. She’s just like a bird in a cage, always sunny and full of song, yet longing to escape from confinement. She yearns to see the world outside her window, but is kept inside by guilt laid on her by her mother. She is duty bound to remain in her tower, and too naive to survive on her own anyway.
Seems our freedom's up against the ropes.

Family: Gothel
History: Crater City: She was born a small and diseased to a single mother twenty years ago. Her mother had lost two children before Rapunzel, which made her mother extremely over protective of her child, who was very sickly and frail from birth. Throughout her childhood every cut or scrape was a massive ordeal, and much of the time she was not allowed outside. She was home schooled, and extremely sheltered. So much so that her mother didn’t cut her daughter’s hair ever, for fear she would be hurt. Rapunzel, however, didn’t mind this one bit. She loved her hair and took pride in brushing it out and keeping it beautiful.
Any time she asked to go outside her mother would go into hysterics, claiming that she intended to abandon her poor mother to die. She felt so guilty each time, that she stopped asking and suffered in silence. At the age of thirteen she was diagnosed with cancer, and began receiving chemotherapy. She lost all of her hair, which she had loved so much. After that she was nothing like her usual sunny self. She became so depressed that she didn’t eat or sleep. Of course back then she didn’t know that her salvation, lay in dreaming.
One night she cried terribly. She cried so much it exhausted her and she fell asleep. She awoke with the sun shining on her face. She opened her eyes to find herself in a large stone tower full of light and bright paintings and drawings, and with a full head of hair, as long and beautiful as if it had never fallen out at all. The tower was full of books, art supplies, puzzles and games, things for baking and even making clothing. Gothel was still in this world, and she was still in a cage, but it was a nicer cage, and she had her hair back and was never sick.
She still lives in that house in Crater City. She isn’t allowed outside at all anymore, but her cancer is gone…for now. She sleeps more than she used to, but she’s bright and cheery again, because she finally has somewhere to escape to.
Roleplay sample: Rapunzel’s eyes fluttered open. She immediately squinted in the sunlight and raised a hand to shield her eyes from the sunlight flooding her room. Sitting up, she stretched her arms out wide and yawned. Her chickadee Vyvian greeted her as she stood, pushing back the gauzy purple curtains around her bed. She quickly washed and threw on a simple purple dress, then began doing her chores. While she worked she sang along with Vyvian’s cheerful song, and she continued to sing as she finished her chores, had a quick stretch, cooked herself breakfast, painted yet another picture of the view from her window, and practiced her harp. After that there was still a list of things she could do before the day was over, like bake cookies or a cake, make candles and pottery, sketch, sew a new dress, and of course she had to brush out all of her incredibly long hair.
There was of course, only so many things to do in a day, so she had to change up the order in which she did them or she would surely go crazy. She sighed and sat down in front of the window, looking out over the top of the forest. Rapunzel often wondered what it was like out there beyond the clearing, but knew that she would never find out. She rested her elbows on the ledge, and her face in her hand. Looking down she could see the grassy clearing, strewn with wildflowers. Grass. She didn’t know what grass felt like. Surely she had felt grass before? She looked over at Vyvian. “Oh Vyv, will we ever get out of here?” The chickadee tilted her head and chirped in response. Rapunzel sighed again and turned back to stare into the forest, resting her head in her hand again, and hoping desperately for something new to happen.

Also, thanks to december for the pretty colors. Also thank you to the most awesome Survivor for the most awesome song Burning Heart to which the lyrics fit so well.
